We have worked with infographics and visual information for half a decade now. We consider ourselves experts in turning data and information into powerful visual communication.
We have done a lot of mistakes. Repeated the same mistakes over and over. And yet, we still do mistakes everyday.
But through the years we have collected a big pile of best practice in our notebook. All things you need to consider, when working with infographics. It's our very own notebook of learnings of what works and what doesn't work.
We use this as a check list for ourselves overtime we do information design. Directly or indirectly we consider all of these things more or less. Or at least when we succeed in making great or genius infographics all "findings" have been taken into consideration too.
As the collection of learnings increased and was revisited, revised and developed, we thought, why not share that knowledge with everyone?
We actually consider this quite generous. It is hard earned learnings , through hundreds or even thousands of projects in the field of infographics and data visualization. So with this notebook in your hand you have the opportunity to skip at least a few of these steps and become a better information designer.
We didn't want to do an extensive /theoretical / academic on the subject of infographics and data visualization. In fact I am not sure we would be able to. What we wanted to do was a collection of advice, findings. All synthesized into handy little reminders in a easy and digestable format.
